I am very excited to announce that my work was selected to be shown in The de Young Open. In celebration of the de Young Museum’s 125th anniversary, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are hosting this one of a kind juried community art exhibition featuring 762 local Bay Area artists.

I went to see the show last weekend, and highly recommend it. The exhibition’s theme is “On the Edge” and works on two levels: On one hand, it implies the idea that this is a Bay Area exhibition culminating in San Francisco, a city “on the edge” of the Pacific Rim. On the other, it acknowledges that the Bay Area has always been on the “cutting edge” of culture and creativity. The exhibition is arranged thematically, and two galleries are addressing current events. They reflect upon the Covid-19 pandemic and represent the Black Lives Matter movement. Thanks to the diversity of works, everyone can find something interesting for them. The works are hung “salon-style”, edge to edge and floor to ceiling. They are installed in a manner that allowed the pieces to stand independently, but still complement each other.

Less than eight percent of submissions made it into the final exhibition - more than 11,000 were submitted, and fewer than 900 made it to the final. Every artwork was reviewed anonymously and multiple times by a group of qualified jurors who did not know the identities of the artists. This ensured the most democratic process possible. The jurors included four Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco curators in charge and three prominent Bay Area artists: Mildred Howard, Hung Liu, and Enrique Chagoya.
